Arizona Sheriff Settles Profiling Claim
July 11, 2011
|
Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio has agreed to pay $200,000 to settle a claim by two Latino men who claimed deputies had pulled them over and detained them because of their race.
The claim arose out of one of Sheriff Arpaio's worksite enforcement raids, when deputies descended on a landscaping company to search for identity-theft and fraud suspects.
Julian and Julio Mora were pulled over outside the business.
