The Bay Area Rapid Transit has agreed to a legal settlement with the family of Oscar Grant and will pay $1.3 million to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit over his death.
Grant was shot and killed by former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle on a train platform on New Year's Day 2009. Mehserle was released from custody earlier this month. He was convicted of involuntarily manslaughter in 2010 for Grant's death.
