ATF Director Expected to Resign, Obama's Nominee from Chicago

June 21, 2011  |

President Obama's nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrived in Washington D.C. Tuesday to begin meeting with Justice officials, amid media reports of the exit of the agency's acting director.

CNN reported Monday that Kenneth Melson, the ATF's acting director, is expected to resign due to the political fallout from the "Fast and Furious" operation, which targeted Mexican gun traffickers but has been linked to the killing of a U.S. law enforcement officer. Republicans in Congress have criticized the ATF's handling of the investigation.

Andrew Traver, who runs ATF's Chicago office may be offered the ATF's top job Tuesday at a meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder.

Andrews Travers is another jokester to worsten the "Fast and Furious" situation. He will gladly take guns away from cops as well. Watch and weep!

Kyle @ 6/21/2011 9:30 AM

Sounds like a political favor to me. All legal gun owners, keep your eye on this administration. <><

Obama and Holder are about to appoint Andrew Traver to lead the ATF. This will be a travesty for those who believe in the U.S. Constitution. As an example, Traver’s nomination was attended by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, who zealously promotes the confiscation of firearms from the American public. Despite the U.S. Supreme Court’s opinion in McDonald v. Chicago, which clarified the Second Amendment affords citizens the right to own firearms, Daley is still trying to violate American citizens’ rights. Further, Traver is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which lobbies for the elimination of privately owned firearms. Finally, Paul Helmke, who is the President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, welcomed Traver’s appointment. Please keep in mind, that the U.S. Department of Justice has recently reported a rapid decrease in violent crime, including the criminal misuse of firearms.

On the positive side, at least we now have the third stooge, Traver, who will complement Obama and Holder.

It is a sad state of affairs when you are embarrassed by the recent actions of the agency you worked for and retired from. The present Special Agents and of the agency deserve better.

Greg @ 6/21/2011 10:48 AM

Traver is horrid, one of Bloomberg's favorite fellow travellers. Not a good guy at all. He should fit right in with the likes of Holder.

Paul @ 6/21/2011 10:58 AM

This seems to sound like it will go from Bad to Worse and when will Congress stop and take a look at the background, views and past comments and actions of these Presidential appointees? I certainly hope Congress will look closely at Travers and his past comments, views and actions, which seem to want to help AG Eric Holder, Mayor Bloomberg and the "brady Bunce" to end 2nd
Amendment rights and further bring harm to our firearms owners.

No one should be surprised by this, disgusted - yes, but not surprised. Anyone paying attention already knows obama's position on citizens possessing firearms (except his own security people). Proposing someone like this guy to head an agency whose hierarchy is already reeling under accusations of conducting a deeply flawed and deadly dangerous operation is par for the course. Lap dog holder will go along without a hiccup. I hope you are all aware of what putting people like this in powerful positions is going to lead to and that you are ready for it. Some difficult personal decisions may have to be made.

There appears to be only one way to straighten the ship and that is the defeat of Obama in the next election. Unfortunately, he can do a lot more damage in the next 2 years.

Dave @ 6/21/2011 1:37 PM

To imagine that Holder did not know about and sanction, "Fast and Furious", is simply beyond comprehension. This guy and this government are neck deep in this whole affair. Melson is the "fall guy" and I hope he tells all.

Greg @ 6/22/2011 7:06 AM

I don't believe it's paranoic to suspect the "hate to waste a crisis" crowd trying to make things worse with gun sales to the Zeta's in Mexico to help the Bama & Hillary with their UN Small Arms Treaty support. Very Scary.

Is the Bama only capable of appointing either terrorists/communists or people from Chicago?

Rich @ 6/29/2011 12:09 AM

The air has had the "Obama" stench for a while to the slow backdoor restrictions and Constitutional destruction. Many of his UN buddies hallucinate and envision "disarming" police as well once the civilian sheeple population are disarmed through UN treaties and "Executive" legislative powers. That is the mindset of George Soros..Global Gun Prohibition.

Rich @ 6/29/2011 12:14 AM

The "Project GunRunner" fiasco was just another Obama act of breaking the law, buying guns in the U.S. and ordered them through to back up the flase claims of the Mexican President that the problem weapons are coming mainlyfrom the U.S.. Unbelievable nasty Obama politics, red with the blood of a U.S. Agent!

John @ 8/30/2011 6:23 PM

Obama is the most corrupt and dishonest person to ever hold the office of the President. Shame on anyone that voted for him. Unfortunately, there was not much for an alternative. That is also the problem we will face in 2012. The lack of a viable candidate may allow Obama to sneak in to a second term. All Hell will break loose if he does. We all know the legends of Chicago politics. Now, the crooks, gangsters, and "activists" are taking over the country.
