Elyria (Ohio) Police Department officers detained a man who leapt over a station counter and attacked an officer who was in the process of booking him into jail.
In footage captured by the station's surveillance cameras, Anthony Thomas, 29, of Cleveland can be seen leaping over the counter. He then jumps on the back of Officer William Witt, who is seated at the station's front desk and working at a computer.
Officer Witt struggles with Thomas, who attempts to reach for the officer's gun. The officer eventually controls Thomas, and other officers arrive to take him into custody.

I am glad the officer is ok. With that said, it appears the location was a detention facility. Why was the officer processing an arrestee by himself? Also, why the he'll was an officer armed in a detention facility.
The police administrator of that agency should take a hard look at the arrest processing policies there and make changes as needed to ensure this type of scenario does not repeat itself.
