Every May, thousands gather in the nation's capital to commemorate Peace Officers Memorial Day and honor law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty. This year, National Police Week will be recognized May 15-21.
Principal organizers of National Police Week events in Washington D.C. are the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), which sponsors the annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, to be held Friday May 13; the Fraternal Order of Police/Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary (FOP/FOPA), which organize the Peace Officers Memorial Day Service at the U.S. Capitol, to be held May 15; and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), which holds the National Police Survivors' Conference, to be held May 16. Additional events will be held during and prior to National Police Week.
