Man Gets 7 Years In Armed Robbery of 86 Cents
April 25, 2011

A New York man whose street-corner armed robbery netted him 86 cents received a 7-year sentence in state prison for the crime.
County Court Judge Stephen L. Greller imposed the sentence on Michael Armstrong, 22, on Wednesday. Armstrong, of Poughkeepsie, admitted last month that he and 18-year-old Devonte Burks accosted a man Aug. 21 in Poughkeepsie and demanded money.
During the robbery, Armstrong's handgun went off, seriously injuring the man. As a result, the judge ordered the two to pay more than $65,000 in medical bills.

The headline is catchy but the guy got seven years because he shot someone, not because he took 86 cents.
