Phoenix Chief Retires, Mayor Laments 'Vindictive' Politics

A month after he was reassigned over questions about the way he reported crime statistics, Phoenix Public Safety Manager Jack Harris has announced his retirement.
Harris retired by sending a one-line e-mail to the city's top administrator. Mayor Phil Gordon told the Arizona Republic he regretted the retirement, calling it a lamentable result of "vindictive" political maneuvering.
