Calif. Officer Killed In Crash Had Earned Purple Heart

Cathedral City (Calif.) Police Officer Jermaine Gibson, who was killed late Friday when his cruiser struck a palm tree and burst into flames, was a former Marine who earned the Purple Heart.
Officer Gibson, 29, was killed in the accident in Palm Springs. He had a 4-week-old boy. He had served two tours in the Iraq War.
He was chasing a stolen Ford Mustang that also crashed and caught fire.

You do not "win" a Purple Heart ... it is awarded to individuals wounded in combat. Officer Gibson earned the Purple Heart he didn't win it! May he rest in peace.
