Paralyzed Oklahoma Officer Receives On-Duty Benefits

An off-duty Oklahoma City Police officer paralyzed when he tried to help escort rowdy patrons out of a bar will receive "on duty" benefits from the city, including having his medical bills paid and six months of on-the-job injury leave, reports KFOR.

Officer Chad Peery suffered a broken neck and is now paralyzed, after three men allegedly attacked him at Dan O Brien's Pub on Feb. 15. Peery was having dinner at the bar, when the bartender asked him to help break up a fight, reports KOCO.com.

According to police, Joshua Rinken, Jimmy Smith and Cadmio Lopez then viciously attacked the officer, leaving him with a broken neck.

Colleagues and friends set up a benefit fund for the officer and have planned several events to raise funds for his recovery. Officer Peery is married with four children.
