The Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Police Department is mourning the loss of John Falcone, the veteran officer who was fatally shot in the head when he confronted an armed man who had killed his wife, reports the Poughkeepsie Journal.
Falcone, 44, was a 18-year veteran who confronted Lee Welch, 27, at a Poughkeepsie train station Friday afternoon. Welch killed wife Jessica, 28, and had taken the couple's 3-year-old.
Chief Ron Knapp described Falcone as an active officer who "was always the first one in the middle of it, as he was this time."
