The Davie (Fla.) Police Department has been paying one of its officers more than $80,000 a year not to report to duty for seven years, racking up some $550,000 in compensation, reports the Palm Beach Post.
Officer Kevin Kilpatrick, 41, has faced two internal investigations, been fired twice, and won his job back twice. He joined the department in February 1994.
Kilpatrick's attorney says his client wants to return to the force, but the town insists he complete a polygraph. Town officials have since backed down, but are now requiring him to recertify to return.
