PETA Donation Assists Wounded N.J. K-9

January 29, 2011  |

After learning that a K-9 dog named Jordon was shot in the chest during a standoff between Salem (N.J.) Police and a suspect on on Wednesday, staffers from the animal-rights group PETA are chipping in and sending a contribution to the Salem County K-9 Association, the group announced.

The association had requested donations to help pay for the dog's medical care. PETA is also sending Jordan a basket of dog treats and toys to make his recovery more pleasant.

"Whether canine or human, police officers are owed a debt of gratitude when they risk their lives in the line of duty," according to Daphna Nachminovitch, PETA's vice president. "Police dogs deserve the very same level of care and compassion as their handlers, and we wish Jordan a speedy recovery, peaceful tours of duty, and a happy retirement when the time comes."
