L.A. School Officer Admitted Faking Shooting
January 28, 2011
|
Los Angeles school police Officer Jeff Stenroos has been arrested for apparently fabricating a story that he had been shot last week outside of a Woodland Hills high school, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Stenroos is charged with suspicion of filing a false police report, and the president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League said the incident is an "embarrassment to law enforcement."
Investigators believe Stenroos may have shot himself in the ballistic vest and concocted the story, which resulted in a massive manhunt.
Stenroos will be fired, as well as face a lawsuit from the city of Los Angeles to recover the costs incurred by the search, the Los Angeles Times reports.
