A Tampa-area jury has convicted Miguel Serrano of trying to kill a Hillsborough County (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy in 2009, when he wrestled away the deputy's gun in an apartment.
Dep. Miguel Galarza responded to a 911 hangup at Town 'N Country apartments on Oct. 13, 2009. Serrano told the deputy everything was OK and slammed the door. When the deputy reentered the apartment, a scuffle ensued and Galarza was shot in the neck, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
On Friday, a six-member jury convicted Serrano on all nine counts, including attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and attempted felony murder, burglary of a dwelling and robbery.
