Two bills have been introduced in the California Legislature that would set aside funding for local law enforcement agencies to help ensure they continue to remain fully funded, reports the Lake County News.
Assemblyman Wesley Chesbro, a Democrat, introduced a pair of bills Tuesday that would extend the Local Safety and Protection Account. This special account funds several local public safety services — including the Rural Sheriffs Program — that help local law enforcement and county district attorneys prosecute cases.
Chesbro's AB 9 X1 and AB 66 would extend funding that would expire June 30. Agencies that participate in the Rural Sheriffs Program receive $500,000 a year.
