An Orange County (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot in the head Wednesday afternoon, during an investigative traffic stop.
Deputy Brandon Coates, 27, served for 4 1/2 years with the sheriff's office. He worked in the Tactical Anti-Crime Unit and had been married to another deputy for about a year, reports News 13.
The deputy was shot after pulling over a white Chevy Silverado pickup at 8:30 p.m. at 45th Street and Orange Blossom Trail northwest of Orlando International Airport.
Suspect Brandon Lyals, 29, appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after deputies surrounded the Silverado at a nearby apartment building.
