As three Dallas police officers retraced their steps today around the Red Bird home where they rescued a family from smoke and flames a day earlier, the small details came into focus:
The old newspapers in the yard, which made Senior Cpls. Dave Regan and Derold Thomas and rookie Officer Arturo Martinez unsure of whether the home was occupied.
“It’s still unreal,” Thomas said, eyeing a blackened, boarded-up entrance. “It’s just a blessing we were where we were at the time and saw the flames.”
The trio surveyed the scene this morning after receiving high praise from Police Chief David Brown for their remarkable efforts to save Lakeisha Harris and her three daughters -- Timiya, 5, Twaneesha, 7, and Timeisha, 8 – from an early Wednesday blaze.
