The widow of slain Norfolk (Va.) PD's Officer Victor Decker said her husband was a dedicated cop who went out of his way to protect and serve members of the community where he worked.
"He was a helpful person," said Dawn Decker, during a Thursday press conference posted by WAVY-TV 10. "All he tried to do was help people."
Victor Decker, 25, was found fatally shot by the side of a road in Virginia Beach earlier in the week. The officer was off duty when slain, but wearing his badge around his neck. Items had been taken from him.
Decker was unarmed at the time, Chief Bruce Marquis told reporters. The department bestowed its Medal of Valor on Decker in March 2009.
