Harrison County Deputy Charged With Assisting Wife's Suicide

A grand jury has indicted Harrison County (Ind.) Sheriff's deputy John Britton with assisting in the March 2009 suicide of his wife Christine, a former jail commander, reports the Courier-Journal.

According to court records, John Britton, 30, told investigators that he and his wife, who was 28 when she died, had been arguing the night of her death, as they had in the past, and that after his wife threatened to kill herself he placed his handgun on their bed and left the room. He said he heard a gunshot soon afterward as he was leaving the house.
