Salt Lake City Officer Cleared In Shooting of Soldier

The Salt Lake County district attorney has cleared Salt Lake City Police Officer Uppsen Downes in the fatal shooting of a heavily armed Army deserter, who exchaged fire with officers near a busy intersection on Aug. 27, the Deseret News reports.
Brandon Barrett, 28, was shot wearing full fatigues and armed with almost a dozen high-capacity magazines. He had been classified as a deserter.
