King County's prosecutor will seek the dealth penalty for Christopher Monfort, who is accused of ambushing two Seattle police officers on Halloween evening 2009, fatally shooting one and injuring the other, the Seattle Times reports.
Monfort is charged with aggravated murder for the fatal shooting of Officer Timothy Brenton and attempted first-degree murder for the wounding of Britt Sweeney on Oct. 31, 2009. Brenton, 39, was serving as the field training officer for Sweeney, who had graduated from the academy two months earlier.
The two officers were seated in their parked patrol car when, shortly after 10 p.m., police say Monfort drove up next to them and opened fire. Brenton was killed immediately, and Sweeney suffered minor injuries.
Montford has also been charged with pointing a gun at Sgt. Gary Nelson, when he was apprehended, and the firebombing of police vehicles on Oct. 22.
