Panel Reinstates Florida Officer Fired For Appearing In Gay Porn Film

A state panel has ruled in favor of a Hollywood (Fla.) PD officer who was fired, when his department learned he had appeared in a gay porn film in the early 1990s, the Miami Herald reports.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement panel ruled Officer Mike Verdugo, 36, could keep his certification as a peace officer. The panel also ruled he must be placed on probationary status and take a state-approved ethics training course.
The department fired Verdugo a year ago for failure to disclosing prior employment.

So he appeared in a gay porn film? His being gay is not the issue, his being in a porn film is. His non-disclosure for the background check would have kept him from being hired originally. If this is allowed to stand, why not just let anyone become a cop, regardless of their background.
