Mehserle's Letter to the Public

July 09, 2010  |

Four days before he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, former Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Officer Johannes Mehserle gave a hand-written letter to Michael Raines, his defense attorney.

In the letter, which was published by SF Gate.com, Mehserle apologizes for shooting the unarmed Oscar Grant on Jan. 1, 2009 on the Fruitville Station platform.

He also describes the moments before Grant died and what he said to the 22-year-old man.
