Atlanta Drops 'Interim' Tag For Chief

Citing improved morale in the Atlanta PD's force, Mayor Kasim Reed officially removed the "interim" from George Turner's title by naming him the new police chief, AJC.com reports.
Former Chief Richard Pennington resigned at the end of 2009. Turner has risen through the ranks and is 29-year veteran of the department.
In the past six months, crime is down 14 percent and violent crimes are down 22.7 percent of the prior six months, according to the report.
