Detroit police identified Brian Huff, 42, as the officer who was killed in a shootout earlier this morning at a suspected drug house in the East Side neighborhood, the Detroit News reports.
Huff, 42, is a 12-year veteran of the department. He was among five officers who were met with gunfire when they approached a yellow brick dwelling at about 3:30 a.m. today.
Police have also identified the suspected shooter as 25-year-old Jason Gibson, who is in custody and expected to recover.
"The perp was struck and I think certainly by police fire," Chief Warren Evans said. "We also found some drugs in the house that had something to do with what was going on in the house, but we're still sorting through it."
Police recovered a .45 handgun and 1-pound bag of marijuana.
The four other officers injured in the shooting have been treated and are expected to recover. Watch a news video update on the Detroit police shooting.
