Thousands Mourn Former LAPD Chief Gates

Thousands of officers and well-wishers showed up to watch the processional memorial service on Tuesday, as eulogizers spoke about the impact former LAPD Chief Daryl Gates had on the city and department, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The at-times controversial former police chief's casket was carried through downtown Los Angeles until it reached Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, where current Chief Charlie Beck said Gates loved the department.
