Murder Trial of Washington Officer Begins

A Washington jury heard opening statements in the trial of an Everett (Wash.) Police officer who is facing murder and manslaughter charges for firing eight shots that killed a drunk driver, the Seattle Times reports.
Prosecutors allege Everett Officer Troy Meade intentionally killed Niles Meservey on June 10. Meade maintains he feared that Meade would run him down while behind the wheel of his Corvette.
Meade is said to have fired two TASER shots at Meservey, who was still able to start his car.
