Baker Ballistics has introduced the PatrolBat ballistic shield, a piece of tactical gear that's been developed specifically to provide instant ballistic cover to the endangered patrol officer.
The new PatrolBat personal shield rides alongside the officer on the passenger side of the patrol vehicle's front seat, and can be easily deployed outside the vehicle.
The shield, which is made of aramid-reinforced composite, is rated at Type IIIA under the NIJ threat-level system for 9mm FMC 124-grain ammunition exceeding 1,700 fps, according to the company.
The shield weighs 13.5 pounds and covers 5.4 square feet of area. It uses a two-position hand-support strap behind a high-impact ShokPad. It's accompanied by a bungee lanyard.
An LED light kit is available as an add-on with finger on/off switch, battery pack, control panel, and intensity/battery condition indicator.
