Dallas Police Chief Finalists Meet with City Leaders

The next Dallas police chief will face a tough budget battle, pressure to continue a historic six-year decline in overall crime and the challenge of molding hundreds of recruits into seasoned officers.

But first, city leaders got to see how the six finalists for the job fared together at a dinner party that was part-job interview, part-speed dating. On the first of a two-day interview process, the men gathered Wednesday night with top city leaders at the Trinity River Audubon Center in southeast Dallas.

"Relax and enjoy meeting the most wonderful group of bosses anyone can have," City Manager Mary Suhm said.

Two finalists to replace retiring Chief David Kunkle were seated at each of three round tables, surrounded by City Council members, city managers and other officials, including Kunkle.
