A Washington State Patrol trooper is reportedly resting and in good spirits, after taking a bullet to the head from an armed man who fired two shots at him as he prepared a vehicle for towing, the Seattle Times reports.
A manhunt is underway for the man who emerged from a dark street, mumbled words and shot Trooper Scott Johnson on the Long Beach Peninsula near Oregon.
Johnson was able to get off a shot prior to the man fleeing the scene; the shooting occured at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday.
Johnson is a 25-year decorated veteran of the state patrol.
A Facebook page quickly drew 2,145 supporters (as of Sunday evening) for Johnson who posted well-wishes for the trooper. Since Halloween, nine members of Washington's law enforcement ranks have been shot and six have died (including the four killed in the Lakewood coffeehouse ambush).
