Charlotte Officer Critically Injured in Patrol Car Accident

Officer Joe Willinsky, who has been on the police force for about 13 months and works in the Providence Division, is in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Officer Robert Fey, a spokesman for the department.
The wreck happened after Willinsky had received a priority call at 3:36 a.m. about a possible burglary from a vehicle at the Strawberry Hill Apartments, on Providence Road.
Willinsky was eastbound on Fairview Road, a few hundred yards east of Sharon Lane, when he apparently lost control of his police cruiser, and it hit a ditch.
