7 N.C. Men Arrested in Terror Plot

July 28, 2009  |

Federal agents have arrested seven North Carolina men, and are searching for an eighth, for planning an intricate terrorist plot in the name if Islam and stockpiling weapons at a Raleigh home.

Those arrested Monday include Daniel Patrick Boyd, 39, who was considered the ringleader of the group, and who fought with Afghan Muslims against the Soviets; Hysen Sherifi, 24; Anes Subasic, 33; Zakariya Boyd, 20, and Dylan Boyd, 22; Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, 22; and Ziyad Yaghi, a 21-year-old Cary High School graduate, the News & Observer reports.

The New York Times' news blog has a copy of the federal indictment against the men with details about their weapons training in North Carolina, attempts to raise funds and trips to the Middle East to participate in jihaddist activities.

I would like to know the immigration status of any foreign nationals in this story. Is there any info on this?

Hello BPNovum, I'm the Web editor here at Police. That info was in the News & Observer's story. They were all U.S. citizens, except for Sherifi, who had legal residency.
