Oakland Police Shoot, Kill Gunman in Street Battle

Two Oakland police officers shot and killed a man Wednesday during a chaotic gunbattle on the street, authorities said.
The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, which happened at 3:05 p.m. near the corner of 16th Avenue and International Boulevard in the San Antonio neighborhood. His name was not immediately released.
The incident began when the two officers tried to detain the man for an unspecified reason on the 1400 block of 16th Avenue, said Officer Jeff Thomason, department spokesman.
