Man Kills 5 Chinese Police in Beijing

A man wielding a knife broke into a Shanghai-area police station Tuesday, killing five police officers and injuring four others, authorities said.

OK. I bet you're wondering why we posted this item. One, I thought it was interesting. Two, I think it is really great ammunition against the gun control argument that there are no mass killings in societies without guns. Chinese police are armed, yet one guy with a knife killed five of them. They must have been asleep. But still, this is an example of the havoc that somebody can commit without a gun. Another mass knifing occurred in Tokyo a couple of weeks ago. In that one, a man rammed his car into a crowd and then got out and stabbed the wounded. It makes you wonder, do we need a new category of attack: an Active Stabbing?

Japan seems to have a couple mass knifings a year as well. People just don't realise how lethal a knife is; what is the current wisdom? That the average person can cover 30 feet in just under 1.5 seconds and strike a killing blow with a hand held weapon? When you think about it, Yang chose the right weapon; wade into a bunch of cops and start slashing and what are they going to do? Shoot? They'd hit each other. So he was guarenteed a few kills. Still, 5 dead and 4 wounded....
