Officer in El Paso Toy Gun Case Placed on Leave

The El Paso Police Department on Monday identified an officer involved in the fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man, who allegedly displayed a weapon that was later found to be a toy gun, department officials said.
Gregory Smith died from gunshot wounds he suffered after Officer Matthew Jones fired several rounds in what police described as self-defense, said Officer Chris Mears, an El Paso Police Department spokesman.
