Fungus Leads Police to Suspect Foul Play
August 16, 2005
The strong smell of a large fungus caused German law enforcement officers to search for a dead body.
After several people in Dresden, Germany, complained to police of a horrible smell, five officers and a K-9 investigated in a nearby forest, expecting the worst.
What they found was an unusually large “stinkhorn.” German media reported the fungus was more than 20cm long. Police called off the search.
