U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez ordered Ernesto Godinez, a reputed Almighty Saints gang member, held in custody until a detention hearing May 17. He was charged with forcibly assaulting an ATF agent with a deadly weapon and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Judge Blocks Los Angeles Gang Enforcement Program

The order is believed to mark the first time a judge has blocked Los Angeles officials from enforcing the injunctions, which were born from a time in the late 1980s and '90s when gang activity in the city gained national attention.
