Gang Member Threatens Detroit Chief

February 24, 2014  |

A death threat against Detroit Police Chief James Craig was made through social media by a gang member who is likely part of a criminal narcotic network, Craig said Sunday.

“We need to clap him out,” Craig said the man wrote, which is slang for shooting someone to death.

During a news conference to address the matter, Craig said the threat will not deter the work that has been done to curtail crime in the city, which includes an average of 35 weekly raids on confirmed drug dens.

On Sunday, Craig issued a warning to the man who made the threat on his life:

“We will find you,” Craig said, “and we’re going to dismantle your criminal enterprise,” the Detroit Free Press reports.

Makes me want to switch agencies and work for you Chief. You have support from AZ! Great work!

Chief A.T. Walters @ 2/24/2014 6:07 PM

Death threats come with the territory. They don't understand "Blue is Blue". My agency is in Texas. But by God, we can ride up that way and help you take the trash out. Good men do good things. Don't let 'em win.

Deputy A.H. @ 2/24/2014 6:18 PM

If they are a whining, you are doing it right. Keep it up and get Detroit back on its feet.

Good work Chief Craig. I wish I was still active so I could help you on this. Even as a retiree from the VAPD here in Detroit, I stay alert for the suspects dealing drugs. It is what a lot is killing this country not just the city of D.

John @ IA retired @ 2/25/2014 11:22 AM

Good work Chief. You have a lot of good men and women backing you up. Didn't hear about this on the national news. Guess cops doing the right thing for their community and the country isn't news worthy.

S.S. @ 2/25/2014 1:47 PM

Keep up the good work D.P.D.

Scott @ 2/25/2014 1:51 PM

You are clearly doing it right, Chief. In the world of sheep, wolves and sheep dogs, don't let up until there are no wolves left standing. Prayers for your safety.

Arby @ 2/26/2014 2:14 PM

Great job, Chief! Here's more support from GA for ya. Maybe they're just feeling a little stressed from your raids and could use a vacation from the block. You know, we do have a lot of nice swamps and marsh lands down here stocked with interesting reptiles. Just sayin...
