L.A. Sheriff Moves to Fire Elite Gang Officers

February 07, 2013  |

Seven Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies in an elite gang-enforcement unit have been notified the department intends to fire them for celebrating shootings and getting matching tattoos.

The deputies are members of a clique called the Jump Out Boys who operate in the OSS (Operation Safe Streets) gang-enforcement unit.

The department began an internal investigation after the Los Angeles Times reported the existence of the group. The investigation didn't uncover any criminal behavior, but the group clashed with agency policies, reports the Los Angeles Times.

My patrol partners and I wear morale patches. Am I to be considered in a clique and fired because we celebrate good work and close calls?

THIS AND WORSE WERE GOING ON IN THE EARLY 70'S AND PROBABLY BEFORE WHEN I BECAME A POLICEMAN IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA. MGT. KNEW ABOUT AND SUPPORTED THE CAMARADERIE THE OFFICERS SHOWED. THOSE WHO IT WAS BELIEVED WOULD NOT FIT IN WERE LEFT TO ROT AS JAILERS IN L.A COUNTY JAILS.

Desk jockeys have no sense of the warrior culture. Sit in your guarded ivory tower while you complain about those who get their hands dirty. When is the last time you went on an active shooter and ended up having to wash the gore out of your boot treads. Quit trying to nueter your officers. I'd take any one of these guys as my back up before any two or three office clowns. I'm not trying to be disrespectful but thats the truth from the trenches fellas.

Is celebrating after a shooting wrong? I witnessed homicide detectives coming to the station after a shooting, smiling and happy, giving a cigar to the deputy that puleld the trigger and slapping him on the back. That surely looked like a celebration. This is stupid.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Right on Matt. I guess were supposed to hold everything inside and eventually crack up. I agree no public displays bur internally great. It's part of the debrief to make you better at your job and for those of you who don't know this is a war and it's getting worse.

Baca lives in a parallel universe with other liberals who are convinced their view of what the world "should be"is right and best for all of the poor peasants who don't agree with him. He'll lose this one in court, and only succeed in further demoralizing his department. Get out of law enforcement Lee.

This IS ''REACTIONARY'' ,GOT TO BE SENSITIVE BS!
When a LIFELONG gang member draws on you, a civilian, while cursing you and hating LEO's with every fiber of their being, and you WIN-
that's right WIN, due to the SUPPORT AND BACKUP
love of other officers who got your back....

WHY NOT ''CELEBRATE'''?

Desk prix don't have a clue or have FORGOTTEN what it's like to be part of an elite unit, a ''LINE OFFICER''.
