Phoenix Police Ambush Suspect ID'd

November 28, 2011  |

The parole violator who ambushed two Phoenix Police officers early Saturday had been released from prison two weeks earlier.

Joseph Sandoval, 26, has been charged with multiple counts including aggravated assault, and weapons and parole violations, for allegedly opening fire on officers responding to a trespassing call at a vacant trailer.

Police believe Sandoval critically wounded one officer and pinned down a second at the trailer park, near 31st and Van Buren streets, just before 1 a.m. Saturday, reports the Arizona Republic.

Sandoval, who was released Nov. 11, had been serving time since November 2007 on charges related to theft and misconduct involving weapons.
