Calif. Jury Recommends Life for Asian Boyz Shot-Caller

A Southern California jury voted for a life sentence rather than death for an Asian Boyz shot-caller convicted of eight murders and 10 other shootings, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The recommendation was announced Monday for Marvin Mercado, 37, who committed the crimes in the 1990s, yet eluded police for a decade by fleeing to the Philippines.

Mercado and his crew committed the crimes "just for fun," an LAPD detective testified.
