New York Mob Sting Nets Dim Goodfellas

An arrest of more than 100 organized crime associates suggests New York's five mob families lack qualified candidates, reports the New York Daily News.

More than 110 of 127 named suspects were arrested earlier this month. The Justice Department used criminal informants to record conversations with the indicted associates.

Arrests in the sting included Scott Fappiano, a reputed Colombo associate, was willing to risk a multimillion dollar legal settlement to collect a debt from a deadbeat. Genovese associate Peter Pace, Jr. was apparently willing to use violence against his defenseless mother-in-law. And Gambino soldier Joseph Lombardi was so desperate to collect a $30,000 debt, he posed as a house-hunter to stalk the extortion victim.
