Mexican federal police today announced the arrest of a man accused of being the leader of the Aztecas gang and who allegedly ordered a hit of a U.S. Consulate employee last March.
Arturo Gallegos Castrellon, alias "El Farmero," was arrested Saturday in a raid at a home in Juárez, officials said.
Gallegos allegedly told police he is "responsible for at least 80 percent of the homicides committed in Ciudad Juárez in the period since August 2009 to the present date," according to a statement by federal police.
Gallegos is also allegedly behind the massacre of 15 students in January at a birthday party in Villas de Salvacar, the deaths of five federal police officers and ordering the U.S. Consulate killings.
