Comedian Bill Cosby called Chief Anthony Scott of the Holyoke (Mass.) Police Department to applaud his aggressive stance on street crime, and it wasn’t a joke.

Scott didn’t initially believe the phone call was actually from Bill Cosby. Once he had been convinced, “I was floored,” he said.

Cosby has a home in the rural western Massachusetts town of Shelburne and has of late become interested in helping combat crime in the area. He has joined with the Basketball Hall of Fame in nearby Springfield to honor local teens who have overcome obstacles to graduate from high school and is helping to organize a community rally against street violence.
