First Response Coalition Worries Nextel Plan Blow to Interoperability

A newly formed collection of firefighters and other groups, calling itself the “First Response Coalition,” has released a white paper outlining problems for police and fire departments’ communications it believes will be caused by a new plan designed to improve cell phone capabilities.

The Coalition’s white paper objects to the Nextel plan’s requirement that public service agencies put up the front-end money to upgrade their communications facilities and then apply for reimbursement after the fact.
