Bald Knob, Ark., Police Chief Erek Balentine is resigning, saying he feels that doing so will better the safety of his family, reports KTHV.

His announcement of resignation comes just days after his truck was vandalized overnight. The phrase "2 Amendment" was written in spray paint on the sides of the vehicle. It is suspected this is related to an open carry case the sheriff has been working.

He told THV11, "I feel that I am bettering the safety of my family and my newborn child. If someone could stoop…low enough to burn my truck then I don't want to take that chance to endanger my family."
