Vermont State Trooper Kyle D. Young, 28, who was assigned to the New Haven barracks, has been identified as the police officer who died Thursday after experiencing a medical incident during training at a Jericho firing range, reports the Burlington Free Press.

Young, of Monkton, joined the Vermont State Police in January 2014.

The cause of his death has yet to be disclosed.

Young collapsed at about 2 p.m. Thursday while trying out for the state police tactical team at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho. An Essex Rescue ambulance, accompanied by 13 police cruisers, rushed Young to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m.

The body, following an autopsy Friday, left the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner's Office with a state police escort and headed to the area of Watertown, New York, where his parents and family live.

Young is survived by his children and his loving partner, the state police said. Gov. Peter Shumlin said Thursday that Young was the father of two young children.
