VIDEO: Sercet Service Chief Resigns Amid Security Failures

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned Wednesday, after a security breach at the White House and other high-profile incidents raised widespread concerns about the safety of the president and his family.

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson announced the resignation in a written statement, and the White House confirmed her decision shortly afterward. President Obama "concluded new leadership of that agency was required," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.

Johnson said: "Today Julia Pierson, the Director of the United States Secret Service, offered her resignation, and I accepted it. I salute her 30 years of distinguished service to the Secret Service and the Nation."

A source familiar with the situation told Fox News that Johnson told Pierson the resignation would be effective immediately, after she offered.

That was the right move on her part. What happened at the white house the other day was inexcusable. I have some LE friends working there and I hate how their name (SS) is being drug through the mud but this nutjob making it through the front door and to the east wing was total failure on someone's part.

That was strange how this character gained access to the White House so easily. This could have been a very bad situation if the President and his family were there at the time the intruder entered the premises. The President should get a more competent and well trained Secret Service Director. We don't need any more OOPS!

Can this Administration do anything right? Instead of hiring PC personnel try hiring qualified experienced people. This county is turning out to be the laughing stock of the world. When someone breaches the perimeter you shoot first and ask question later this is the White House not Ferguson, MO.

She had nary a clue & it could be seen during her Congressional grilling. 30 years of service as a pencil pusher & staff aide. The Secret Service Uniform & Field Divisions are the back-bones for the agency. When it was moved to DHS in 2003 the moral dropped like a brick. An article I read said the Uniform Division is treated like a hated step-child. Maybe they can now start to rebuild the morale & character of their Officers/Agents. With Obama as POTUS & A.G. With-Holder still hanging around I wouldn't hold my breath to long.

Obama, and his administration makes one mistake after another and they pass the buck to someone else. We all know who generates these mistakes and it is not you and me it's wana be king.

If the Secret Service would have shot that nutjob as he sprinted across the Whitehouse lawn the story would have been "SS KILLS UNARMED MAN" and BHO would have apologized to the world for the excessive use of force.
