N.C. Officer In Coma Following Training Accident

October 04, 2013  |

A Morehead (N.C.) Police officer has been placed in a medically induced coma after one of his fellow officers accidentally shot him during a training exercise.

Officer Garrett Hardin, 23, was shot in the chest during a Wednesday training exercise. Officer Hardin was not wearing his ballistic vest, reports WNCT.

Chief Wrenn Johnson took responsibility for the incident, which is now under investigation. "I am responsible for what happened," he said. "It's clear a mistake was made and we will take responsibility for it."
