Fla. Chief: I Was Fired for Not Arresting George Zimmerman

Former Sanford (Fla.) Police Chief Bill Lee told CNN Wednesday he refused to arrest George Zimmerman to appease city officials, who fired him as retribution.

Lee told CNN there wasn't enough evidence to warrant an arrest in the killing of Trayvon Martin. He said he was fired when he refused to appease an angry public.

At the time, officials said they let Lee go because they lost trust in him. Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte fired Lee in June of 2012.

And the DOJ spent money to organize Zimmerman protests in Sanford. Tell me this isn't political.

If george Zimmerman would have killed a white youth, THAN would he have arrested HIM, YES of course he would have.

Irma, your implication that former Police Chief Lee is a racist, is speculative and unprofessional. Although I don't have inside information about the social and political dynamics in Sanford, my guess is the chief had the integrity to simply do the right thing - regardless of the backlash.

By the way, one entry response was more than enough.

My Opinion is he did the right thing. They didn't have enough evidence to warrant an arrest and the only reason this trial took place was to settle the storm that the uneducated community made. Martin was a troubled teen that had little to no guidance by his parents as do most youth these days.

the man is to be admired... he did not succumb to pressure and waste tax money on something he knew would not be won cause the evidence nor facts for a conviction was there... period. I would hope he had a contract and got every dime of what he would have earned had he stayed the chief...

Now that Zimmerman has been acquitted of all charges by his fellow peers, Chief Lee should get his job back! Confidence should have been restored with the verdict of the jurors. I wouldn't recommend going back to that chicken shit city department though. I'm just expressing my freedom of speech here. This entire case is politically spoiled, it should have never made it to court in the first place. We all know that if a "minority" (African American) gets killed by a TRUE MINORITY (Caucasian, Hispanic, or otherwise), the colored community must get some sort of appeasement or they forget how to stand up straight on two legs and start acting like animals.

Ima Leprechaun @ 7/18/2013 10:36 PM

The truth is he is a racist but even in Florida that is not illegal. When he gets his job back they will make him officer of the year for doing what he did. The supervisor at the scene of the murder that was ordered by the Chief not to investigate Zimmerman is the only honest cop in Sanford. He deserves better.

Akela @ 6/26/2016 4:45 PM slept through that whole fiasco didn't you? Here. Let me catch you up on what happened:

1. The chief was wrongfully terminated by a cowardly, "Nikki Haley" type mayor, afraid of negros.
2. Zimmerman was correctly acquitted by a jury in spite of prosecutorial misconduct on the part of the state.
3. Tray, is still gone and residing on the other side of the grass.
4. You are no smarter, but at least a little better informed thanks to my efforts.

You're welcome. Now go hug a thug to prove how much you love these people.
